Sheriff Paul Monroe
Sheriff Paul S. Monroe was born in Warren, Ohio, and grew up in the Bolindale area of Warren. Sheriff Monroe graduated from Howland High School and Kent State University, earning a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Criminal Justice / Law Enforcement Administration.
Sheriff Monroe began his career at Howland Township Police Department as a patrol officer in 1987, working literally every job in the police department. From “walking the beat”, to conquering many positions of rank, including; Detective, Commander of the Detective Bureau, and Shift Sergeant. Sheriff Monroe worked undercover buying drugs and narcotics, organizing narcotics operations with multiple agencies. In 1990, Sheriff Monroe, Commanded the first Trumbull County Drug Task Force, known today as TAG. In 2003, Sheriff Monroe was promoted to the rank of Chief of Howland Police Department.
In 2017, Sheriff Monroe retired from Howland Township Police Department with 29 years of dedicated service, and was proudly elected the 43rd Sheriff of Trumbull County.
Sheriff Monroe is an active and participating member of the Trumbull County Homicide Squad for the past 30 years and has received numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding performance in law enforcement. These include; Valor in the Line of Duty, Investigative Excellence, Lifesaving Award, Certified Law Enforcement Manager (CLEM) Award, and Administrative Excellence. Sheriff Monroe has also been recognized by Teen Straight Talk as a Pillar of the Community for his experience, fairness, dedication and influence in our society.
Known to be committed to Excellence, Sheriff Monroe affirms, “As Sheriff, my goal is to protect the lives and property of the citizens of Trumbull County, to preserve the peace, and to prevent crime and disorder.
